Pennington (PhD\, University of St. Andrews\, Scotland) is a Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Southern Seminary in Louisville\, Kentucky. He also regularly serves as a visiting professor at many schools as well as church-based theological institutes. DESCRIPTION:On the Christian calendar\, Lent is the forty days beginning on Ash Wednesday and leading up to Easter Sunday. Lent is a season of preparation and repentance during which we anticipate the death (Good Friday) and resurrection (Easter Sunday) of Jesus. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season. The aim of Ash Wednesday is threefold: to meditate on our mortality\, sinfulness\, and need for a savior; to renew our commitment to daily repentance in all of life; and to remember with confidence and gratitude that Jesus has conquered sin and death. \nIt will be a time of reflection\, prayer\, and responding to God through Scripture. DESCRIPTION:We have a tradition of beginning the year in God’s Word together. We do a four-week Bible study (one for men and one for women) that includes a reading plan. This year we will be studying The Upper Room Discourse in John 13-16\, which is also the text for our spring preaching series. \nEach week will be a mix of sharing takeaways from the reading\, small and large group discussion\, teaching\, and fellowship. This is a great opportunity to meet new people while exploring these great chapters together. \nMen are meeting on Tuesday mornings (starting Jan. 23) and Women on Wednesday mornings (starting Jan. 24)\, both from 6:30-8:00am in the chapel at University Avenue. DESCRIPTION:Our mission at Providence is to help each other believe and apply the gospel in every area of life. One of our primary strategies for doing that is our gathered worship on Sundays. Therefore\, by helping to lead the congregation in praise of our Triune God\, our musicians play a vital role in the mission of our church. We do this through a formational liturgy\, and we rely heavily on our musicians to help create a Gospel-formed service with undistracted excellence. \nOur weekly worship service at Providence is a family gathering\, and we desire for our music team to be comprised wholly of musicians within our church family who are using their gifts to build up the body. Toward that end\, we are always looking to add to our music team this year!
