  • Benevolence Policy. Benevolence funds are supported through the church’s annual budgeting process. The Financial Team determines an appropriate annual dollar amount to budget for benevolence support. Additionally, personal contributions at times may be designated for benevolence over and above the budgeted monies. All decisions about benevolence requests will be made at the discretion of the Financial Team.

Handling of Requests. Requests for benevolence will be passed to the Deacon for Benevolence who shall oversee, respond to, and resolve each request. Financial aid is not guaranteed, and priority will be given to those who are connected to a Providence Gospel Community. Providence is committed to helping those in need, but reserves the right to assess and evaluate each benevolence request. At no time will Providence correct an ongoing financial burden or offset monthly or routine expenses. Benevolence assistance is intended to meet specific needs and bridge the gap of despair while directing the individual to other financial resources in the public and private sector. Beyond helping with pressing needs, Providence will seek to help applicants understand and apply biblical principles of financial stewardship.

Documentation. All benevolence requests will be documented using this Benevolence Form along with any submitted documentation. This form serves as a record of contact and resolution and will be completed by the applicant and reviewed by the Deacon in charge of benevolence and the Financial Team. All information will be handled in a discreet, confidential, and private manner.

Criteria for Funding. Those wishing to receive benevolence assistance must: 1) Complete and submit this Benevolence Form in full. 2) Meet with a deacon/elder and another Providence representative to discuss the applicant’s needs (no one-on-one meetings). This can occur over phone call when necessary. 3) Provide any and all contact information and documentation requested in order to validate the benevolence request. 4) Sign and agree to the terms of Providence’s benevolence policy.

Disbursement of Funds. Funds will be disbursed on a case-by-case basis. No cash will be disbursed directly to the benevolence applicant unless deemed necessary by the Financial Team.

Follow-up Benevolence Care. One month and six months following the disbursement of funds, recipients will meet with a deacon/elder or another Providence representative for financial counseling. The goal of these meetings will be to follow-up and help the recipients further understand and apply biblical principles of financial stewardship.
