Summer Electives

We believe that the gospel changes everything about us: it transforms our hearts, it renews our minds, and it instructs all that we do. This summer at Providence we are once again offering 4 equipping opportunities—we call them “Summer Electives.” All classes will be in person this year.

Please email Kendal if you have any questions about one of these electives. If the cost is prohibitive for you, please let us know. Everything kicks off in early June, so read more about each elective below and sign up over at the registration page.

FINANCIAL PEACE
Financial Peace is a nine-week course that is aimed at helping you achieve health in the area of your finances. You will learn how to eliminate debt, make and keep a budget, spend wisely, save for the future, and give generously. If you need help in the area of finances in any way, this course is a must. If cost is a deterrent, please let us know.

THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS
What do we believe and why do we believe it? This eight-week course is aimed at helping you better understand the foundational doctrines of our faith (How do we know anything about God? What roles do faith and works play in our salvation? What is the mission of the church?). Each week, you will focus on one of these core doctrines, examine what the Bible teaches, and learn why it matters for our daily lives.

Leader:
 John Scharbach
When: Sundays, 2-3:30pm at University Avenue (Community Room)
Length: 8 weeks (June 13 – Aug 1)
Cost: $20 / Capacity: 40 people

SOUL CARE IN OUR CURRENT CULTURE
This class will provide the basic building blocks of biblical counseling while also addressing what the Bible has to say about our current culture’s hot topics. From LGBTQ to racial reconciliation to mental health, we will look at Scripture and discuss how to faithfully engage and care for ourselves and our neighbors.

Leader:
Andrew Dealy (LPC at the Austin Stone Counseling Center)
When: Mondays, 7-9pm at the church office
Length: 6 weeks (June 14 – July 19)
Cost: $20 / Capacity: 30 people

THE KINGDOM OF GOD
In this summer elective, we will explore the theme of kingdom throughout the Bible so that we might properly behold the One who announced, “the kingdom of God is at hand.” What does it mean that Jesus is king? And that we are citizens of his kingdom? These questions are central to our understanding of the gospel, and have many implications for how we live our lives. As the King’s people, we will both worship the King and work out the practical theology of how we approach vocations and relationships, including marriage, singleness, parenting, and community in view of the reality of the Kingdom of God.

Leader:
 Jason Collins
When: Thursdays, 7-9pm at the church office
Length: 6 weeks (June 3 – July 8)
Cost: $20 / Capacity: 30 people
